New Tesco Store, Plymouth

Tesco were building a new store adjacent to an old supermarket in the town of Lee Mill, Devon.

Carillion Piling constructed continuous flight auger (cfa) piles to support the floor and frame of the store. Each of the 450mm diameter piles was formed with an enlarged head. The use of these enlarged pile heads enabled a thin floor slab to be used and pile trimming for these piles was also eliminated.

A powerful piling machine was used to ensure that the piles penetrated the underlying shale and slate founding strata sufficiently to support the specified pile loads.
