Flood Storage Chamber - Keighley

The Keighley contract was for the construction of a new flood water storage chamber.

Due to soft ground conditions with water bearing strata, this flood water storage chamber was constructed using interlocking 600mm diameter secant piles. The design was such that the interlocking action of the piles enabled the ground to be supported without the use of walings or a capping beam.

The shaft was 12m deep and had a diameter of 14m. 64 unreinforced female piles and 64 reinforced male piles were constructed. Female piles were constructed using continuous flight auger techniques and male piles using segmental casing and rotary boring techniques.
