Berthing Dolphin, Dover Harbour

A protection dolphin was required at one of the ferry berths in Dover Harbour to prevent impact damage to the berth.

Carillion Piling, in partnership with Carillion Marine, was contracted to install a new dolphin in Dover Harbour.

A 4.2m diameter shaft was drilled to a depth of 25 metres using temporary casing to seal off unstable strata. The steel liner was then inserted into the bore, concreted in place and the temporary casing removed. This work was carried out at night between shipping movements. All work was done from jack-up platforms.

Client: Dover Harbour Board
Piling rig used: Soilmec RT3S
